Reserve Services Collection The Reserve collection is a temporary one supporting University teaching programs and is accessed in paper format at the HBL Circulation/Reserve Charge Desk and on-line through Vista. Certain course related materials may also be purchased as Reserve Course Packs sold at the UConn Co-op . The Reserve collection includes the following types of materials:
Your ID Card A University ID (and prior registration as a University borrower at the HBL Circulation/Reserve Desk) or a UConn Libraries Borrower ID is required to borrow Reserve materials. Loan Periods Reserve materials circulate for one of the following loan periods:
Reserve Lists Lists are submitted by faculty electronically. Reserve staff make every attempt to process Lists submitted on time before the start of the semester. Lists received after the established semester deadline are placed in a processing queue. Materials are processed out of queue order only under extenuating circumstances. Incomplete, or incorrect information in lists can cause delays in making Reserve materials available to student users. Ordering New Books Reserve orders requested titles not owned by the library, except for required textbooks. It can take several weeks to order, receive, and process a new title, so ample lead time must be allowed when ordering new titles for Reserve. Library policy permits the purchase of 1 copy of a title per 20 students up to a maximum of 3 copies per title. Call Kim Crockett at 486-5781 for more information. Journal Titles For most efficient processing, faculty are encouraged to provide copies of journal articles from which Reserve can scan for electronic course reserve. Otherwise, complete citations, without abbreviations, are required for Reserve to process journal articles from the Libraries' collections or through Interlibrary Loan. Electronic Course Reserve (ECR) ECR is a web based service designed to enhance access to Reserve materials by eliminating access constraints of time and place. It offers Reserve materials over the campus network via Vista. See links for faculty and students on the Course Reserves Homepage. For more information, email Reserve Services or call 486-2307.
